Buying an iPad used to be simpler but Apple’s lineup is getting a bit crazy!
With the upcoming release of the iPad Air 2020 that is so similar to the iPad Pro 2020 comes the question: which iPad should you buy?
Here’s a list of spec differences between the two to make it easier to choose:
Side by side, they look similar; both of them have the more industrial-looking squared edges.
If you like colors, the iPad Air (2020) here has a variety of them. It comes in rose gold, green, sky blue, space grey, and silver, while the iPad Pro (2020) only comes in space grey and silver.
As for the display:
The IPad Pro (2020) comes in 11.0 inches and 12.9 inches.
The IPad Air (2020) has 10.9 inches.
The bigger size display of the iPad Pro (2020) is handy if you do something like sketching or you are heavily dependent on the Apple Pencil for note-taking or illustration.
Both of these displays support true tune, but the iPad Pro (2020) is going to be better-lit at 600 nits compared to 500 nits in the iPad Air (2020).
The final difference in the display is promotional, and it is the 120Hz refresh rate built in the display. It will make things smoother and more responsive.
The iPad Pro (2020) has a triple camera at the back:
12 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/3", 1.22µm, dual pixel.
10 MP, f/2.4, 11mm (ultrawide).
TOF 3D LiDAR scanner (depth).
As for the iPad Air (2020), it comes with only one camera at the back like the 2018 iPad Pro:
2 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/3", 1.22µm, dual pixel.
Both of them have a 7 MP front camera.
The iPad Pro (2020) has 4 speakers; however, Apple hasn’t announced anything regarding the iPad Air’s speakers yet.
But, we know that it comes with 2 speakers and a landscape audio experience.
For the processor:
The odds will tip in the favor of the processor of the iPad Air (2020), as it’s equipped with Apple's all-new A14 Bionic chip-set.
Apple claims that this is the greatest and latest silicon chip with a faster processor.
It’s the best Apple has to offer currently. Looks like the iPad Air with the A14 bionic is going to be faster and much more capable.
The iPad Pro has four options: 128GB, 6GB RAM; 256GB, 6GB RAM; 512GB, 6GB RAM; 1TB, 6GB RAM.
And for the iPad Air, it has only two options: 64GB and 256GB.
In the iPad Pro (2020), there’s the usual face ID that we all know so well. However, in the iPad Air (2020), Apple introduced Touch ID via the power button. This is nice, especially when wearing a mask or if you are not a big fan of face ID.
Another cool feature is the USB-C port in both of them which allows you to connect your external storage and faster transference speed.
In conclusion, we don’t have face ID promotion tech and we don’t have more cameras, but the iPad Air (2020) does have a faster and more capable processor with a good design and Touch ID in the power button.
And another plus in buying the iPad Air (2020) is that you won’t have to pay extra to take your iPad to the next level with the magic keyboard and the apple pen, because the iPad Air (2020) supports both of them.
The iPad Pro (2020) starts at £769\$799 and the iPad Air (2020) will start at £579\$599
Now you have all the details you need to choose. If you are looking for an 11-inch iPad, I believe the iPad Air (2020) is the way to go. Unless you want the bigger display, it doesn’t make sense to get the iPad Pro (2020) at the moment; might as well wait for the 2021 model, right?
